The American Rifleman's Knife was originally made in extremely limited numbers, and has the distinction of being the first knife officially designed and purchased by the United States Army in 1849.

The knife is inspired by an ancient piece in the private collection of the President of Cold Steel, Lynn C Thompson, and although it is not an exact replica, it has many of the design nuances that make this knife a classic.
It is hand-forged in 1085 high carbon steel, with a sturdy brass guard and beautiful rosewood handles that encapsulate the full tang of the blade.
