A well-motivated classic. The “kukri”, the Nepalese multipurpose instrument made famous by the Rgt. Gurka, in the service of His British Majesty and derived from the ancient Greek crescent swords, is nothing more than a machete with an advanced cut. This cutting progress allows it to replicate the functionality of a hatchet, while maintaining the versatility of the long blade. Extrema Ratio, managing to blend ancient and modern concepts, has created two tools of this category: the KS and the KH.
The blade of these knives has differentiated edges. Near the handle, the blade is razor sharp, so as to allow a narrow sharpening angle to be reached without excessively affecting the thickness of the back material, which must remain solid. The edge of the blade, on the other hand, is flat and well angled in order to penetrate wood and vegetation effortlessly.
Usually this kind of tools are built with soft steel, to be more elastic and more easily resharpenable. Extrema Ratio has succeeded in obtaining two elastic tools with a decidedly long-lasting and resistant sharpening using instead a hard steel such as BÖHLER N690.
